Big Clearout Events

Dear Reclaimfunners

Just to say we are moving towards phase two of the project, Big Clearout days. These will be aim to focus waste management. The concept that we deal with specific products each weekend. In might be bicycles one weekend, tied up with prams and a go-cart weeken the next.

Phase 3 is to form community pods, to allow for further improvments in the wast management. This will allow reclaim fun to be broadened and work shops delivered to assist teachers.

We have now run 15 years of pilot projects and have the expertise and knowledge to manage waste, safely, allowing young people to explore and be given creative oppertunities. The items re-used, repaired or recycled.

If you are interested in workshops on the matter please contact us. The will think we are as mad has George the third, mixing and contaiminating materials, so they cant be used and burying them, total madness, leading to insinerators!

Please not that we have now got steroscopes and dynascopes. This means that we can go even further down the journey of discovery.

We are now looking for smaller items, like old or non-functional watches. We are now going to adapt a stereoscope, with cameras on them.

If yu have inspection equipment, sat doing nothing, or old CCTV equipment dont let it go to waste, ReclaimFun it.

On Britains most wanted, think of the small items as well. Would also like to look at different materials, an broken opal, would be fab, as the material has a 3d quality. As it happens you can make concrete see-through, just put fibre optic strands in it and the light will shine through, this is the next pahes of todays work, brain storming what glass fibre casn be used for.

Now you know what it is what do we need? The fuel of the project is small producs that can be taken apart and explored. If you have larger items please inform us, we would not turn down concord, rent the water board field, and break her apart to show young people whats inside the box. We are currently talking to a hospital who has an old scanner. The hall is large enough for this to be taken apart and explored.

We have a high turn over of young people at the centre and hence need loads of box's to break open and explore.

How can you help. Get rid of the clutter, dont take it to the dump, let us digest it and we will then give it to recycle agents, all sorted, Simples!

Items include:

1) desparate for model railway and scaletrics, this is not part of the transforming program, but 'mass in motion'. We need track and vehicles that can be transformed to push different mass systems (pendulums, small mechaical systems).
2) old video cameras, broken digital or out of fashion cameras.
3) metal detectors
4) old alarm systems
5) old cttv security systems (not the VDU monitors please)
6) Old battery powered tools, we are after anything with small motors in them.
7) Old mechanical cameras and cinematic film projectors
8) old record players
9) old clocks and wind up mechanisms
10) Quarts clock movements

Electric Trains sets and Scaletrics

WE are deparated for electric train sets and scaletrics. Also remote control toys and models. This is part of mass in motion project, also touches on 'pear forces'. Please plese dont take this stuff to the dump or charity shops that have not got PAT testing facilities.

RECLAIM FUN, bring it down to www.timemachinefun.com open 7 days a week 9-4. Please not its not a dumping ground and 24 hour secuirty is on site together with CCTV.

Microscopes

We are still looking for donations of digital cameras and old cctv equipment. This will be used in the enrichement process to monitor nature and time.

We are desparated for microscopes and volunteers to attach digi cameras to them. Like the telescopes and the bins, they will be used as a library facilitiy to allow young people to use them when they visit the centre.

Please Please Please if you have a microscope, thats in the loft and getting dusty, bring it on down. Likewise if you brought one of the digi-microscopes from lidls and dont know what to do with it, bring it on down.

Even if you have broken, cameras, projectors, telescopes, bins and microscopes bring them on down and we will do workshops, tinkering ones, to shake the science out of them so young people understand the principles of what they are using and the limitations of them.

Tools and Machines

We need the following tools for the tinker school

small screwdrivers
cutters
pillars
small adjustable spanners
note books pens and paper.

We also need tools for the work shop, ths is for the older volunteers to use on projects. We also need to provide routes for young people to set up their own workshops. We run the www.got2own.co.uk website towards this aim.

It can only happen if you let it happen, we want young people to be enriched by creative projects, make this happen, contribute towards the project.

Old Stuff

An old gramaphone can actually get the principles about a modern CD Player over. Older items tend to be bigger and easier to shake the science out of.

They tend to be made to be repaired, which is something we all may need to consider in the end.

Old clocks, watches, graphone, industrial equipment.

We are desparate for early electric, gas and water meters, theys are great. Portsmouth Water Board recently donated a water meter from 1910. It has now taught more children than be counted how a water meter works and how it fits into the water board system

Larger items, space ships, body scanners and the such

We will consider larger items and need to show children whats different as well as what they use as products. Industrial test equipment is great, portable computers,... all good, just phone us on 01243 576890.

You may have compoents that you have stored for ages, why not give them good use. Declutter your workplace and your homes, its very refreshing.

You know it would have gone to a good cause and the items get reused or recycled.

RECLAIM FUN

Old Walkmen and portable CD and DVDs, watches and clocks

This comes into the recording program and playback. The portable CD players actually have a good clock in them!

Also old quartz movments are great fun to transform. We dont need the whol clock just the quartz units.

Old watches and clocks are always useful. Especially mechanical watches. Clocks are to, what we do before tinkering is remove the springs. The task of make and destroy can be very creative and good for hand ey coordination skills and showing the reward of taking your time.

Things that move or have motors.

This is where the Transforming Tinkering kicks off. We need items with small low voltage motors in them, they are actually in a lot of products.

1) remote controlled toys and scaled models.
2) Motor drives for cameras
3) Small battery driven hand tools, all those useless electric screw drivers brought that did not have the ump to do the job.

DESPARATE for
old train sets and scaletrics, this is part of the mass in motion workshops.

So declutter, give you loft a break, increase the safety of your house and bring your unwanted motorised tools and small battery operated tools down to the centre.

Please not that it has to be open to leave the stuff. Please dont take advantage of this beautify project and land us with your rubbish. Call if there is any doubt!

Things that freeze time

We have to have enough of one thing to generally run a tinkering workshop. The basic level is

old cameras and projectors. These capture and replay. So if you have any old cameras or projectors we would be interested in them. Each camera has a lot of science to shake out of and the principles behind these old cameras are still the same, all thats changed is the recording media, not negatives, but electronic eyes!

Motor winder cameras are great, we can re-use the optics (glass) in an art project and the old camera has a battery system and motor that can be used to Transform and make into a robot assembly, what fun.

Broken or unwanted digital cameras. We can get the science of the optics from the old cameras, but the real fun starts in the early digital cameras.

This leads to what can be done with a digi camera and computer, you can turn your environment into one big experiment.

SO DONT LANDFILL THESE INTERESTING ITEMS RECLAIM THE FUN.

Your mission, if you wish to take it, is to RECLAIM FUN. Instead of cluttering your life or filling up land fill, bring interesting WANTED items to the TimeMachineFun center. Please not we have to accept the goods before left at centre and CTV cameras are in operation. This message will emplode in 10 minutes, stand back its not going to be pretty.

Train sets and scaletrics: We need this for the time in motion project. Dust of the old trains set or scaletric set and bring it down to the TimeMachine Fun centre.

Cameras, projectors, bins and telescopes. Old cameras and digi cameras, old ctv systems, form part of the 101 experiments in your environment project. We need to build up a set of usable telescopes and also for the Tinker Academy.

Metal Detectors and other systems with sensors. We are desparate for metal detectors. Mums the word, regard to their purpose, but its a good one.

Old portable phones and other old wifi stuff. This relates to transmission and recieving information.

Portable walkmen, cd/dvd players and old ipods. Also windup gramaphones and some other audio equipment, including tape to tape recorders. This involved freezing time and replaying it, i.e. recording time.

Larger single items will be accepted, her the whole workshop is based on the item. We are currently trying to find the funds to take a body scanner to bits and shake the science out of it.

We always need art and modelling materials. Also portable small tools for the dis-assembly process and for the motors within them.

Small power tools for their motors, remote controlled models and toys.

The items dont have to be working, just clean and in no way contaminated. Looking for interesting items to take apart, simple clean fun.
